Andy Cecere is the chairman and chief executive officer of U.S. Bancorp, the fifth-largest commercial bank in the country and the parent company of Elavon, a leader in the payment processing industry.
Cecere has been chief executive officer since 2017 and chairman since 2018. He served as president of U.S. Bancorp from 2016 until 2024, when Gunjan Kedia was appointed president.
Since joining the U.S. Bancorp finance group in 1985, Cecere served various leadership roles including vice chairman of the company’s wealth management division, chief operating officer and chief financial officer. Early in his career, Cecere was a part of the corporate development team that orchestrated a series of mergers and acquisitions and laid the foundation for the superregional bank that U.S. Bancorp is today.
Cecere earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and finance from the University of St. Thomas and an MBA from the University of Minnesota. He is active in the community, serving on the board of trustees for the University of St. Thomas, and the board of advisors for the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. He is active with the Bank Policy Institute, Business Roundtable, Federal Advisory Council, MN Business Partnership and The Clearing House.
